Gucci has weighed into the abortion debate at its latest fashion show in Rome, with its new collection referencing abortion rights and women's rights.

Gucci designer Alessandro Michele said he wanted the collection to reflect that women need to be respected.
At a post show press conference he said women "should be free to choose what they want and terminate a pregnancy ... [It] is the most difficult choice for a woman to make and I respect that choice".

The collection, included a jacket with the slogan 'my body, my choice' and a silk gown with a uterus depicted in embroidery.

It was released as a number of US states with the goal of overturning Roe vs Wade, which effectively legalised abortion in the country.
Anti-abortion sentiments are also unwavering in the Vatican, which was only a short distance from the fashion show's venue.

Pope Francis condemned abortion , comparing it to hiring a 'paid killer'.

Gucci's pro-choice statements were shown alongside pieces inspired by the Catholic church, using clerical collars, scapulas worn by the clergy and cappello romano hats.
The inclusion of these pieces show Gucci hasn't backed away from religious appropriation after earlier this month over selling a 'Sikh-style' turban.

The Sikh Council UK accused Gucci of positioning an article of faith as a fashion accessory, calling the turban 'degrading mimicry'.
