Matthew Wade copped a reprimand for a Big Bash League send-off directed at Jos Buttler, but a Hobart Hurricanes teammate has brushed it off as the wicketkeeper's competitiveness coming to the fore.
Wade escaped a fine but was deemed to have breached the game's code of conduct in Hobart's breakthrough nine-run win against Sydney Thunder on New Year's Day.
The former Australia gloveman got up in the face of Buttler, after running him out in the final over of the tense chase.
"I didn't think it was that much. It's been blown out of proportion a little bit," Wade's Hurricanes teammate and English import Tymal Mills said on Wednesday.
"He didn't say anything - he just yelled at him.
"You'll definitely see and hear much worse than that.
"There was no malicious intent. Hopefully it came across as showing how much we wanted it."
After two lacklustre losses to open their BBL season, Hobart - much like Wade - roared to life against the Thunder to get their first win of the tournament.
D'Arcy Short led the way with 97 in the side's best batting performance to date.
But the task gets tougher against the unbeaten Adelaide Strikers at Bellerive Oval on Thursday night.
Mills believed the Hurricanes were starting to bat with more composure but was critical of his bowling.
The 25-year-old quick has just one wicket in three matches, with his cheapest four-over spell conceding eight runs an over.
"I haven't played for five months and that's showed more than perhaps I thought it would," the T20 specialist said.
"I always put pressure on myself no matter where I'm playing in the world.
"This is what I hang my hat on."
