Long white cloud cast over parliament

The woes of Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce and the ongoing dual-citizenship saga have again occupied much of question time.

WHAT THEY SAID ABOUT THE KIWI JOYCE AFFAIR:

"You can't be a member of parliament and have dual citizenship. It's black and white." - Labor leader Bill Shorten quotes Barnaby Joyce.

"What the deputy prime minister said in that interview was not a correct interpretation or description of the way the law operates." - Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's response.

"It is a principle of international law that nations do not seek to interfere in the domestic political processes of other countries." - Foreign Minister Julie Bishop on claims Labor conspired with NZ Labour.

"This is so much utter nonsense - while (NZ Labour MP ) Hipkins' questions were inappropriate, they were not the instigator. Australian media inquiries were." - NZ internal affairs minister Peter Dunne.

"If the foreign minister won't be able to work with the New Zealanders, how will the foreign minister be able to work with the deputy prime minister?" - Opposition manager of business Tony Burke.

"We've received verbal communication from New Zealand before question time that that has now been accepted." - Joyce on his application to nullify his NZ citizenship.

"I'm very confident the High Court are not going to be swayed one way or another by what is said by members in this house." - Speaker Tony Smith, allowing the Joyce debate to continue unabated.
