Mental health royal commission to tour Vic

A Royal Commission into Victoria's mental health system will be visiting communities across the state to hear about people experiences.

A Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System will kick off with a series of community forums across the state.

Beginning in Whittlesea, north of Melbourne, on April 5, the commission will weave its way across the state and visit areas including Pakenham, Healesville, Bendigo and Shepparton.

Commissioners Penny Armytage, Alex Cockram, Allan Fels and Bernadette McSherry will focus on identifying and solving system-wide issues.

The commission will not investigate individual cases or incidents.

"To develop our findings and recommendations, we will engage widely with Victorian communities and encourage people to share their experiences and suggestions," Ms Armytage said.

Individuals can have their say in one of three types of sessions in rural, regional and metropolitan communities running throughout April and May .

That includes community forums for the public, sessions for people living with mental illness and roundtable discussions on local issues.
