"This is because such indefensible actions are completely at odds with the lofty teachings of Islam."

The strong statement from religious leaders, comes after the attack in London which left at least seven people dead, including two Australians.

The three attackers drove a van into pedestrians at the London Bridge, then exited the vehicle armed with knives, stabbing at passers-by at a nearby market.

They were shot dead by police.

The Muslim leaders also praised the work of police and emergency services "for their rapid response, arriving at the scenes while risking their own lives to protect the victims and public".

"Their response exemplifies the courage, humanity and honour we must exhibit in such difficult times," the statement said.

The decision comes after Manchester Central Mosque reportedly in Manchester Stadium attacker Salman Abedi’s funeral.
