More than half of Labor voters back a government crackdown preventing mothers "double-dipping" on paid parental leave.
And a surprising cohort of them are women of child-bearing age.
The latest Essential Poll survey shows 55 per cent of Australians approve of the coalition's policy to stop parents claiming both employer and taxpayer-funded leave entitlements.
Liberal and Nationals voters were the most keen on the changes, while Greens voters were the least.
Fifty-two per cent of Labor voters agreed with the move.
When the results were split on gender lines, two in five women aged 18 to 34 agreed with the change, although slightly more in the same age group disapproved.
Labor opposes the policy, saying women have every right to top up their leave with the government scheme.
Some partners of Liberal government ministers have done this in the past, shadow families spokeswoman Jenny Macklin says.
