Mosul air strike may have hit civilians

A US-led coalition air strike targeting Islamic State militants may have killed civilians in a hospital car park, the US military says.

An air strike by the US-led coalition near the northern Iraqi city of Mosul hit a van in a hospital compound car park and could have killed civilians, the US military says.

A van carrying Islamic State fighters was targeted and hit in Thursday's air strike, the Combined Joint Strike Force said in a statement.

"The van was struck in what was later determined to be a hospital compound parking lot resulting in possible civilian casualties," it said.
