A Turnbull government backbencher will introduce to parliament his own draft laws to stop cuts to Sunday penalty rates for Australian workers.

Nationals MP George Christensen on Monday gave notice of a private bill he says will protect take-home pay from a recent Fair Work Commission decision and union-negotiated agreements with rates below the award.

"I don't like to hear of any workers taking a forced cut in pay - and that goes for those who work Sundays at Coles and Woolies as well as those who work at small businesses across the country," he told MPs.
