NDIS workers to be vetted for convictions

Prospective NDIS employees will have their criminal histories checked when they apply for work after legislation passed federal parliament.

People applying to work in the national disability insurance scheme will be vetted for criminal convictions under a new national screening program.

Commonwealth, state and territory agencies will take criminal records into account when employing NDIS workers after legislation passed federal parliament on Thursday.

"Disabled people also have the right to safety. We have the right to be free from violence, exploitation and abuse," Greens senator Jordon Steele-John, who uses a wheelchair, told parliament.
