New crackdown on single parent welfare

Single parents will need independent confirmation that they are not in a romantic relationship if they are receiving the higher pension payment.

Single parents will have to prove they are not in a relationship if they want to continue to receive the higher payments.

The Department of Human Services estimates up to 15,000 people in romantic relationships were incorrectly receiving the extra $264.50 a fortnight single pension.

"People should only be receiving the payment to which they are entitled," Social Services Minister Christian Porter told News Corp Australia."
