None of the almost 600 people killed or injured in the Las Vegas shooting massacre have been identified as Australian citizens but inquiries are ongoing.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said US police are still to identify three people killed on Sunday (Monday AEDT) when a gunman in the Mandalay Bay Hotel began firing at a music festival crowd.

"While a number of Australians were present at the scene, no Australians have been directly affected as victims or amongst the injured," she told reporters in Sydney on Wednesday.

Consular staff are still contacting the next-of-kin of those who have been admitted to hospital due to the "atrocious incident".

"We continue to offer our deepest sympathies to the families or victims, those who have been injured and the people of the United States," she said.

The death toll for the shooting has reached 60 while 527 are injured.

The shooter, a 64-year-old man from Nevada, was found dead inside his room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel with an arsenal of weapons.

Police said he filmed himself shooting into the crowd at the Route 91 Harvest country music festival.
