One Nation candidate Mark Ellis quits

A member of the "Pinkenba Six" has withdrawn his candidacy for One Nation at the next Queensland election.

One Nation has lost yet another candidate for the next Queensland election, with former policeman Mark Ellis announcing he is no longer standing.

Mark Ellis, who was endorsed to contest the seat of Macalister, announced his withdrawal on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

Citing abuse and threats to his family, Mr Ellis decried his targeting by the "leftie media" and "pathetic haters".

He also blamed his decision to quit on a former employee's decision to go to the media with threatening messages allegedly sent by Mr Ellis.

The Guardian reported Mr Ellis allegedly threatened to kill 25-year-old Mihalis Kalaitzidis after he decided to stop working for him, and published a screenshot of the conversation.

Mr Ellis initially denied the messages had come from him before telling the website "it might be (me), it might not be, I don't know which".

A member of the "Pinkenba Six", Mr Ellis was one of six police officers charged in 1994 with kidnapping three indigenous youths from Brisbane's Fortitude Valley and leaving them 12km away in Pinkenba.

The charges were dropped but Mr Ellis told the Nine Network last week "I wouldn't do it again".

Mr Ellis is the fifth One Nation Queensland candidate to quit or be axed by the party since it unveiled its first batch of contenders for the state election in December.
