Pain no barrier for Supercars star Davison

Even with a fractured ankle, two-time Bathurst champion Will Davison delivered a strong result for his rookie Supercars team on Saturday.

He's driving for a rookie team with a fractured ankle but Will Davison delivered a strong result in Saturday's Supercars race in Townsville.

Davison damaged ligaments and fractured a bone in his left ankle while running in June.

The two-time Bathurst winner battled his way through the Darwin Triple Crown last month and remains in a moon boot in Townsville.

Regardless he jumped into the driver's seat for Saturday's 200km race and secured a top 10 finish in another strong result for Milwaukee Racing's debut season.

The ninth-place finish was Davison's fifth top 10 result of the year and leaves him 16th on the championship ladder.

"It's strapped up pretty heavily and, obviously yeah I'm a long way from going for a run, put it that way," Davison told AAP.

"But in terms of it affecting me here, besides taking too long to get to the toilet, I'm hobbling around and it's comfortable in the car."

Davison is no stranger to overcoming the pain barrier inside a Supercar.

In 2010 he drove most of the second half of the season with a broken rib after crashing at Bathurst.

Last year a multi-car shunt at Symmons Plains in Tasmania left him in hospital with a cracked vertebra.

"It (the ankle) was really bad at Darwin to be honest ... way better now, night and day," he said.

"No way I could left foot brake but when you've just got to tap the clutch on downshifts and do a start, I can manage."
