French presidential election candidates Marine Le Pen and Francois Fillon cancelled campaign events scheduled for Friday after a shooting on the Champs Elysees killed a police officer.

Far-right contender Le Pen called off her event and conservative Fillon, who was the target of a foiled terror attack a few days ago, told French broadcaster France 2 that he would also be cancelling a campaign event in the French Alps on Friday, the final day of the presidential campaign.

The first round of the election will take place on Sunday under heavy security.
