A phone app being developed by the Federal Government could play a vital role in Australia’s fight against the coronavirus.

The app will alert users when they have come in contact with anyone who has tested positive to COVID-19.
It is based on one used in Singapore and uses Bluetooth technology to alert users when they have come in contact with another app user who has had a positive test result.

The app would be optional for Australians to opt-in with all information stored securely and anonymously.

A 40 per cent uptake of the app by the Australian population is required for it to be an effective tool in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus.

People in Australia must stay at least 1.5 metres away from others and gatherings are limited to two people unless you are with your family or household.

If you believe you may have contracted the virus, call your doctor (don’t visit) or contact the national Coronavirus Health Information Hotline on 1800 020 080.

If you are struggling to breathe or experiencing a medical emergency, call 000.
