Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has ordered Australia's finance regulators to prepare a comprehensive report on the potential fallout of Brexit.

The Council of Financial Regulators, including representatives of Treasury, the Reserve Bank of Australia, ASIC and APRA, will investigate the consequences of the UK leaving the European Union.

Mr Turnbull is being briefed by Australian diplomats on the situation in Europe and told reporters on Monday the report would be presented to government early next week.
