Police conclude Moomba riot investigation

Police have finished their investigation into the Moomba riots, having charged 34 people with affray and riotous behaviour among other offences.

The investigation into riots at Melbourne's Moomba festival has been wound up with police charging 34 people and expecting to charge another seven by summons.

Gangs ran amok in the city on March 12 with at least 100 people brawling in Federation Square and up Swanston Street.

Police on Friday said 33 of those charged or due to be summonsed are under the age of 18.

Ten of those teenagers have suspected links to the notorious Apex gang which is believed to be behind a spate of violent home invasions and carjackings across Melbourne.
