This question has come to the fore after pregnant presenters from Television New Zealand from a letter writer calling it "embarrassing” and an “eyesore".
The writer of the letter, John Rook, sparked online backlash after penning a letter to TV Guide towards TVNZ sports presenter Jenny-May Clarkson and her pregnant co-host Renee Wright.
The letter was posted on Twitter by several people.
The pair has been backed by viewers and the network, who said it was their choice how long they stay on the air.
In an interview with the NZ Herald, Rook, 69, said he stands by his opinion, but regrets writing the letter.
Clarkson posted her own Facebook comment on Sunday, thanking those that had supported her decision to stay in front of the camera.
