Prince will be remembered not just for his music, but also for the eclectic mark he made on the fashion world.

The singer, who has died aged 57, broke all the fashion rules but, given his flair and panache, was able to pull off almost any outfit.

One of his most memorable looks was undoubtedly the (fittingly) purple suit and white ruffled shirt he wore for his hit song Purple Rain.

Some said it was the look that sealed his fashion fate as a frontrunner in setting trends.

In 1993, he took to the stage wearing a police hat with chains covering his face, while he sang into a microphone shaped like a gun.

In 1999 he proved that he had even more sparkle power when he arrived with his then wife, Mayte, at a fashion event wearing a loose, gold sparkling outfit.

Attending the De Beers and Versace Diamonds Are Forever charity event, the singer's outfit never failed to grab headlines.
Another of his memorable sartorial moments was his performance with Beyonce at the 2004 Grammy Awards when he sported a tailored purple suit, with a gold shirt and tie.

The following year he turned heads at the American Music Awards with a white, hooded ensemble.

At the 2007 Superbowl XLI it was not only his performance that got people talking - his orange suit garnered its own attention.

Four years later he dazzled again in an all-gold creation on the same night he invited Kim Kardashian on stage to dance during his performance.

The 2015 American Music Awards provided yet another opportunity for him to wear a showstopper, this time accessorised with a pair of three-lensed glasses that covered his eyes and forehead.
