Protesters shoved at PM event in Sydney

Climate protesters have been shoved by riot police as they waited for Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull outside a Sydney research centre.

Climate protesters have been shoved by riot police as Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull was rushed to his car following an event in Sydney.

Mr Turnbull was at the Children's Cancer Institute at the University of NSW on Tuesday announcing $20 million to combat childhood cancer when half a dozen protesters, including one dressed in a giant sun costume, gathered outside the building.

Police from the NSW riot squad held the protesters back as Mr Turnbull was rushed to his car.

Video footage shows one woman pushed to the ground.

Comment was being sought from NSW police.
