WHAT WE LEARNED

* The My Health Record system won't be sold off and won't be used to make money for the government.

* Labor failed to get a suspension motion passed, with crossbenchers Cathy McGowan, Rebekha Sharkie, Kerryn Phelps and Julia Banks abstaining from the vote, and Bob Katter siding with the coalition.

--

WHAT THE GOVERNMENT WANTED TO SPIN

The budget surplus will be delivered without increasing taxes.

--

WHAT LABOR WANTED TO TALK ABOUT

Why is the parliament only sitting for 10 days in an eight-month period.

--

WHAT THEY SAID

"It's the literary awards next week ... and the Labor Party's policies will be making an entry in the fiction (section)." - Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

"The parliament is part-time under this prime minister, but the civil war in the Liberal Party is a full-time occupation." - Opposition Leader Bill Shorten.

"There are more Australians turning up to work under this government than ever happened under their government." - Morrison.

"Having promised adult government, you then get a prime minister describing his own mob as The Muppet Show." - Manager of opposition business Tony Burke.

TWEETED

@SwannyQLD Business investment has fallen 31.4% under the coalition since 2013 & wage growth is at record lows. That's a dreadful economic record & explains why Australians don't buy Morrison's boastful rhetoric. #qt #auspol
