WHAT THEY SAID

"He was a man who embodied the best of public service." - Prime Minister Scott Morrison on the death of George HW Bush.

"He had a self-effacing modesty and instinctive courtesy that with every passing day seems to belong to a vanished political age." - Opposition Leader Bill Shorten on Bush.

"Given that the prime minister had to explain to US President Donald Trump why Malcolm Turnbull is no longer prime minister, and that German Chancellor Angela Merkel was not even sure who he was, will he now explain to the Australian people and the wider world why Malcolm Turnbull is no longer prime minister of Australia." - Shorten.

"Everybody on this side of the house is going to work incredibly hard to the next election to ensure the rest of the world never know who the leader of the Labor Party is." - Morrison.
