The SBS Sydney newsroom was closed on Tuesday after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

The employee was last in the office on Friday and is now at home and in good spirits.

An SBS spokesperson said as a result of social distancing measures, the person had minimal contact with other employees in the office.
Immediate close contacts have already been identified and are self-isolating, and SBS is continuing a more comprehensive tracing exercise.

"The health and safety of our employees remains our top priority," the spokesperson said.

While the newsroom has been thoroughly cleaned a number of times since Friday, additional sanitisation is taking place, and all staff working in that area have gone home.
"As an essential service, particularly during this time, SBS will continue its news operations," the spokesperson said.

Tuesday's SBS World News bulletin will be broadcast out of Canberra.

The Sydney newsroom is expected to reopen on Wednesday.

"SBS is strictly complying with health and safety advice and protocols in response to this matter," the spokesperson said.
