An Indigenous man who has spent a year walking almost 6,000 kilometres from Perth to Canberra to raise awareness of Aboriginal rights will finally arrive in the nation's capital.

Clinton Pryor will descend on Canberra on Sunday, a year after setting out from Perth on his walk for justice.

Thousands are expected to join him as he marches down Canberra's main avenue to the Aboriginal Tent Embassy at Old Parliament House.

The 27-year-old will then meet with Governor-General Peter Cosgrove and federal politicians next week when parliament returns for a fortnight of sitting.

Mr Pryor set out on September 8, 2016, and has since taken seven million steps and gone through eight pairs of shoes.

He plans to raise awareness of Indigenous issues during his meetings in Canberra, having met with Aboriginal elders and community leaders across Western Australia, the Northern Territory, South Australia, Victoria and NSW during his walk.
