Sheeran pips Pink to 2017's top album

British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has smashed ARIA's annual charts for 2017 with two albums and four singles in the top 10 best seller lists for the year.

Ed Sheeran has pipped Pink to the post and topped ARIA's album charts for 2017.

The British singer-songwriter had two top 10 albums last year, with his multi-platinum third record / (Divide) the biggest seller across Australia in 2017 while his 2014 release X hung in at number seven.

Pink's seventh studio album Beautiful Trauma took out second place in the annual list, followed by Taylor Swift's sixth album Reputation.

Sheeran also smashed the annual singles charts, with four hits from his / album making the top 10.

Shape of You clinched the number one spot after spending 15 weeks on top of the ARIA charts, with Castle On The Hill and Perfect taking out the third and fourth spots respectively, and Galway Girl in at number seven.

Movie soundtracks also proved popular in album sales, with children's animated movies Trolls and Moana topping the second Guardians of the Galaxy album in the top 10.

And enthusiasm for Michael Buble's much-loved Christmas album is far from waning.

It was the eighth-biggest seller in 2017, marking its seventh consecutive year in the annual top 10 albums chart.

Overall, Australian artists had 27 albums and nine singles in the top 100 sellers for the year but none made it into the top 10.

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Paul Kelly's 23rd studio album Life is Fine - his first ever number one record - was the highest-selling Aussie album at number 14 and Jessica Mauboy's album from the TV series The Secret Daughter was number 20.

Dance music trio Pnau had the biggest-selling Australian single, with their track Chameleon coming in at number 32.
