The first-ever national red alert has been issued for smog in China, as air pollution continues to affect parts of the country.

Smog "red alert" issued for Beijing

The smog is so severe it's causing disruptions and cancellations on roads and at airports.

Air pollution in Beijing is 50 times higher than World Health Organisation recommendations posing a range of health problems for people in affected areas.

SBS Asia correspondent Katrina Yu is in Beijing and spoke with Peggy Giakoumelos.
