Leaked documents about Indian submarines that were stolen from a French naval contractor are embarrassing for both those parties but have no bearing on Australia's project, Defence Industry Minister Christopher Pyne says.

Mr Pyne said the federal government would be pressing ahead with the submarine order from shipbuilder DCNS.

"It's embarrassing for DCNS and embarrassing for the Indian navy, (but) has no bearing at all on the Australian project," he told the Nine Network.
