Ten-year-old Australian violinist Christian Li wins international competition

Australian Christian Li has finished equal first at an international tournament for the world's finest violinists after several scintillating performances.

Australian Christian Li, 10, became the youngest ever winner of the Junior Prize at the 2018 Menuhin International Competition for Young Violinists in Geneva.

Li was awarded the prize, alongside 11-year-old Singaporean Chloe Chua, after his rendition of Jaehyuck Choi's Self in Mind and Vivaldi's The Four Seasons: Summer .

The Menuhin Competition, which is dubbed the "Olympics of the Violin", is held every two years in a different city around the world.

Li was the youngest participant to make it the junior finals after he impressed the judges with Beethoven's Violina Sonata No 1, Piazaolla's Histoire du Tango and Cafe 1930.

He won 10,000 Swiss Francs ($AUD13,000) and was granted a one-year loan of an Italian violin by Florian Leonhard Fine Violins.

Li began learning the violin at the age of five and studied under Dr Robin Wilson at the Australian National Music Academy in Melbourne.

Diana Adamyan, 17, from Armenia won the Senior Prize.

The competition was founded by legendary violinist Yehudi Menuhin in 1983.
