A Tesco Christmas ad has come under fire for featuring a Muslim family celebrating the Christian holiday, despite plenty of support for the supermarket's inclusive campaign.

Tesco - a UK supermarket chain - released its "Everyone Welcome" campaign for Christmas with an online ad featuring a diverse range of families from different ethnicities all preparing a turkey for the family.
The comical ad focuses on the fun and frustrations of preparing food for Christmas. But a segment of the online ad featuring a Muslim family holding Tesco christmas gifts has drawn criticism.

The majority of social media was supportive of the inclusive campaign and many people - including Muslims - congratulated the supermarket for capturing the essence of the festive season.
Some viewers claimed the ad was "political correctness" gone wrong and started the backlash with the hashtag "Boycott Tesco".

Tesco responded to UK media claiming everyone is welcome to celebrate the festivites.

“Everyone is welcome at Tesco this Christmas and we're proud to celebrate the many ways our customers come together over the festive season," A Tesco spokesperson said.

The ad is one of five short videos to be released over the next few weeks as part of the "Everyone Welcome" campaign.
