The investigation into whether cabinet minister Bridget McKenzie broke ministerial rules has reportedly been completed and is expected to be handed to Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Sunday.

The ABC has reported the investigation by the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet secretary Philip Gaetjens into the so-called 'sports rorts' scandal has now been concluded.

Confirmation has been sought from the prime minister's office.

Mr Morrison ordered his department secretary to look into the handling of the $100 million sports grant program and particularly a $36,000 grant Senator McKenzie when she sports minister awarded to a Victorian shooting club of which she is a member.

The Sunday Telegraph reported that colleagues of Senator McKenzie expect her to resign from senior government roles to limit the political damage from the scandal.
However, the newspaper confirmed the minister will not stand aside before the prime minister receives advice as to whether or not she breached the ministerial code of conduct.
