Thousands of properties saved as WA firefighters battle out-of-control blaze

Thousands of properties have been saved from bushfires burning out of control north of Perth, but lives and homes remain under threat.

A bushfire emergency remains in place for areas north of Perth where a bushfire has been burning out of control for six days.

The fire is still threatening lives and homes at Woodridge, Seatrees and Breakwater Estates with authorities declaring it contained but not controlled.

It has destroyed almost 13,000 hectares and is and being battled by more than 300 firefighters.

"The fire remains stationary, however, the threat remains due to activity within the fire ground," the Western Australia Department of Fire and Emergency Services said on Monday.

"Forecast weather conditions mean there is still a high risk of flare-ups as winds strengthen."

Two evacuation centres are in operation at Gumblossom Community Centre in Quinns Rocks and at the Granville Civic Centre in Gingin.

Community meetings will be held there on Monday and a number of schools in the area will be closed.

Meanwhile, an emergency warning for another fire at Mogumber, also north of Perth, has been downgraded to a watch and act.

That blaze is still burning out of control but is stationary, cutting the risk to lives and homes.

It has burnt through about 7000 hectares and 200 firefighters remain at the scene.
