Vic MPs to examine artificial intelligence

A Victorian parliamentary group will examine the social and economic effects of artificial intelligence.

Victorian MPs are on a mission to get people to embrace, not fear, artificial intelligence.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Artificial Intelligence will consider how to capitalise on the technology, following in the footsteps of a world-first UK group established in 2017.

"The issue of artificial intelligence and machine learning is one that people don't understand and would naturally fear," Trade and Investment Minister Philip Dalidakis, the group's co-convener, told reporters on Wednesday.

"This is something that can provide us with huge opportunities within our industry development.

"Yes, people will be fearful of it, but we should be learning to embrace that change."

The group, modelled on the UK version, will examine the economic and social effects of artificial intelligence.
