WA toddler in hospital after pool incident

A Perth toddler has been rushed to hospital after a near-drowning incident at a family daycare centre.

A family daycare centre in Perth has been closed after a toddler almost drowned in a swimming pool on the property.

A St John Ambulance spokesman said paramedics who arrived on the scene on Monday found a neighbour administering CPR to the two-year-old after it was believed he fell into the pool.

The toddler was taken to Joondalup Health Campus, before being transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital, where he remains.

An update of the child's health status could not be obtained because the family has requested privacy.

Community Services Minister Tony Simpson confirmed the centre had been shut while an investigation was carried out.

The findings will be tabled at parliament.
