--

* The baby was born at the private Lindo wing at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London where Catherine previously had two straightforward deliveries

* The new baby is a brother to four-year-old Prince George, who was born on July 22, 2013, and two-year-old Princess Charlotte, who was born on May, 2, 2015

* The name of the new prince is yet to be announced, but he weighed in at 8lb 7oz - 3.8kg

* Prince William was present for birth

* George and Charlotte visited their new baby brother in the hospital

* Catherine and William took the baby home to Kensington Palace just hours after he was born

* Catherine's pregnancy was announced in September after she pulled out of a public engagement due to hyperemesis gravidarum, a form of severe morning sickness which she also had during her first two pregnancies

* William and Catherine are the first members of the Queen's immediate royal family to have more than two children since she and Prince Philip had their four children

* The baby is the Queen's sixth great-grandchild and fifth in line to the British throne, bumping uncle Prince Harry down to sixth spot

* In terms of titles, the baby will be His Royal Highness, a Prince of Cambridge

* The bookies are banking on William and Catherine again opting for a traditional name with Arthur, James, Philip or Albert all good bets for a boy

* When George was born, Australia sent a soft cuddly bilby toy and a copy of beloved Australian author Mem Fox's picture book Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes as part of a gift pack selected by then prime minister Kevin Rudd

* An enclosure at Sydney's Taronga Zoo was also named after the young prince, with a $10,000 grant for the zoo's project to preserve bilbies also made in his honour

* George was just eight months old when he visited Australia with his parents in April, 2014

* Prince William also visited Australia as a nine-month-old baby, joining his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales and his father Prince Charles on a tour in 1983.
