A beauty clinic owner has died in hospital two days after she suffered a cardiac arrest during a breast procedure performed by an unlicensed Chinese tourist.

Jean Huang, 35, died on Friday after she was allegedly administered a local anaesthetic and breast fillers by Jie Shao at her Sydney clinic on Wednesday.

Ms Huang had been in a critical condition at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital since the botched procedure.

Shao, who is not registered in Australia, faced Central Local Court on Thursday charged with causing reckless grievous bodily harm and using poison to endanger life at the Medi Beauty Laser and Contour Clinic at Chippendale.

Police are now considering further legal action.

The 33-year-old is also being investigated by the Health Care Complaints Commission along with Yuegiong Fu, who is also not registered in Australia but was allegedly working as a nurse during the procedure.

"The commission is also assessing a complaint about a registered medical practitioner at the practice," the HCCC said in a statement on Friday.

Court documents allege Shao administered "an intoxicating substance, tramadol and lida caine (sic)" to Ms Huang.

Her solicitor, Mary Underwood, on Thursday told the court her client was a graduate of a Canton medical university and a specialist in dermatology who had practised in China and Great Britain.

She had arrived in Australia four or five days previously with two Chinese passports because her tourist visa - which expires in November - was attached to her old passport, Ms Underwood said.

Shao was refused bail by magistrate Sharon Freund and the matter was adjourned to the same court on Tuesday.

Medi Beauty Laser and Contour Clinic's website states the company offers state-of-the-art beauty services based on the latest medical technologies.
