91 forced marriage reports across Australia prompt call for schools to take action

The AFP-led Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation has urged school communities to be alert to signs of children being forced to marry. Forced marriage is when an individual is coerced, threatened or deceived into getting married, or when they are incapable of consent. Since its criminalisation in 2013, there have only been two prosecutions. Experts say this is due to a lack of reporting.
