The Federal Court has recognised 13 native title claims over pastoral leases covering 40,000 square kilometres south of Katherine and near the Gulf of Carpentaria.

"These determinations provide real opportunities to build sustainable economic and cultural outcomes and open up the opportunities being created in the Top End," Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel Scullion said.

This brings the number of successful native title claims across the NT to 62.
