Northern Territory Police Commissioner Michael Murphy has announced a second curfew in Mparntwe/Alice Springs for three nights.

It comes after a string of violent incidents in the town over the weekend, including an alleged assault of four off-duty police officers.

The curfew has been declared effective immediately between 10pm and 6am, and covers part of the Alice Springs CBD.

Commissioner Murphy said he considered NAIDOC Week events when setting the curfew's start time at 10pm.

"I'm very mindful about the decision to support NAIDOC Week and not disrupt events associated with NAIDOC Week," he said.

It will apply to all residents, including adults, with people not allowed to enter the declared area aside from a few select reasons.

"A failure to abide to a request by police can lead to an offence, and it can lead to an infringement notice or an arrest," Commissioner Murphy said.
