Ash Barty has officially become one of history's greatest tennis players, quietly entering the books as 10th longest-serving world No.1 since rankings began in 1976.

For 66 consecutive weeks, the proud Ngarigo woman has reigned supreme, bumping Romanian Simona Halep, with 64 weeks, from her No.10 spot.

It tops off a bumper season start for Barty, 24, who is enjoying an eight-match winning streak and her ninth career title.

However, her position as world no. 1 could be under threat, with Japanese superstar Naomi Osaka quickly emerging as an indomitable presence in the game.

The two are set to go head to head in next month's Stuttgart Grand Prix.
