An Aboriginal Elder living in a Dubbo aged care facility has become the fourth First Nations person to die from coronavirus.
He had received only one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Aged in his 80s, the man was a resident at St Mary's Villa care facility, where a current outbreak of the virus has infected 21 people. A woman in her 90s, who was fully vaccinated, has also died at the same facility.
NSW Health also reported that a woman in her 80s, residing at the Holy Spirit aged care facility in Dubbo, had passed away from coronavirus complications.
"That brings our total to seven deaths across Western NSW in this current outbreak," said Chief executive of Western NSW Local Health District Scott McLachlan.
"Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of these residents, but also to the people that are working so hard in these aged care facilities to try and halt the spread of COVID-19 and stop us seeing further terrible outcomes like this."
Last month an Aboriginal man in his 50s died in Dubbo hospital, with his death confirmed on August 30.
A female Elder in her 70s from Enngonia died on September 6 in Dubbo Hospital, and a man in his 60s from Dubbo two days later.
There were 15 new cases of the virus recorded in Western NSW up until 8pm Thursday. The total number for the region is 1039, with 745 in Dubbo.
