Northern Territory Police are investigating the death on Tuesday of a baby in Tennant Creek.

Police said in a statement that they were called to a property on Tuesday morning, where they found the baby unresponsive.

"Paramedics transported the child to the Tennant Creek Hospital. He was pronounced deceased a short time later," NT Police's statement said.

Police said they were investigating the circumstances surrounding the baby's death.

Territory Families said it would work with police on the investigation "as required".

"Territory Families’ thoughts are with the baby’s family at this difficult time," a statement said.

But they said no further comment could be made while investigations were ongoing.
