Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Paris Norton and I am a 24-year-old Gamilaroi woman from Dubbo, NSW.

What drives you as a photographer?

As a proud Gamilaroi woman from North-Western NSW, I am passionate and devoted to my Indigenous cultural heritage and create works that reflect my own journey and topics that are important to me.

I am inspired by the places I travel to, the people I meet and most importantly the stories that I hear. What drives me as a photographer is the ability to have a voice through art.
My photography is my way of passing stories and knowledge to future generations. We must challenge views and express what it means to be Indigenous in contemporary Australia.
How do you create your images?

I use a layering technique. I combine a minimum of two images and turn them into one with digital programs. I came across the layering technique when working in the dark room by accidentally developing two film strips on top of one another. I brought this idea with me when starting with digital photography.

What is the meaning behind the images?

The two black and white images are from a series called ‘Connections’ which explore people’s connection to place. The coloured images explore the rebirth of spirits back into the land.
If you are a talented writer or photographer we would love to showcase your work at NITV. Check out the ' to start the first step towards getting your work published.
