The Kid LAROI cleans up at APRA Music Awards

The rapper collected awards in three categories, while young singer/songwriter Budjerah had a win as well.

First Nations singers and songwriters have scooped gongs at the 40th annual APRA Music Awards. 

The stars of the country's music scene descended on Melbourne's Town Hall Tuesday night to recognise the best and brightest.

The unstoppable force that is The Kid LAROI won big, collecting awards in three categories. 

The rapper won Song of the Year for 'STAY', his blockbuster hit with Justin Bieber, Most Performed Hip Hop/Rap Work for 'Without You', and bagged the prestigious Songwriter of the Year award.
The 18-year-old, who currently resides in L.A. with family, did not attend the event, but thanked the organisation.

“Thank you for awarding me with Songwriter of the Year. I really appreciate the support and I want to give a quick shout out to fans back home," he said in a statement.

"I’m stoked to be on my way back and I can’t wait to perform the END OF THE WORLD TOUR with you guys. I miss you all and I’ll see you soon.”

Coodjinburra youth Budjerah also won on the night for his collaboration with Matt Corby. 

The duo collected the award for Most Performed R&B/Soul Work for 'Higher', Budjerah's first. 

"'Higher' is an ode to fun, it’s a celebration of happiness when life is stress and worry-free,” said Budjerah.
