This evocative video illustrates the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth

A collaboration between Kuku Yalanji actor/producer Bjorn Stewart and non-Indigenous producer Tess Waldron, this viral video draws attention to the disparity of equality between Indigenous and non-Indigenous young people.

Revealing the confronting statistics on the disadvantage faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth compared to their non-Indigenous peers has attracted wide-spread social media attention.
The video uses real figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics to highlight the staggering disparity in our national school retention rates, suicide rates, life expectancy, and several other issues.

The video features both Indigenous and Non-Indigenous young people, including himself, solemnly reading these statistics from the point of view of the Indigenous community.

The video's script was adapted from a segment on Triple J's Hack program. Speaking on how the video came to be made, Stewart told Allan Clarke, “She [Tess] was shocked about the current state of affairs, this wasn’t anything new to me as an Aboriginal man, Tess approached me and said, ‘I can’t believe I never knew about this and a lot more people should know about it’.

“We picked a group of actors from all different backgrounds because this is an all of Australia issue, not just an Indigenous issue”.

Stewart hopes that the video will contribute to awareness in the wider community and assist in getting people to support efforts to 'bridge the gap.'
