Kerr misses out on FIFA Best award as Lewandowski keeps his crown

Sam Kerr finished runner-up to Alexia Putellas for The Best FIFA Women's Player of 2021, while Robert Lewandowski retained his award as the top men's player in world football.

Kerr's incredible 2021 was bettered only by Putellas, with Barcelona teammate Jennifer Hermoso finishing in third place.

Despite the trio's standing in the women's game, not one player featured in the FIFPro women's world eleven.

That wasn't the only surprise of the night, however, with The Best finalist Mohamed Salah and The Best goalkeeper Edouard Mendy also failing to make the men's FIFPro side.

Lewandowski formed part of the frontline in that select eleven but was much more enamoured with being named The Best FIFA Men's Player for the second successive year.

Emma Hayes and Thomas Tuchel were equally delighted with their success in Zurich, with the Chelsea duo crowned the best women's and men's coach for their exploits on the domestic and continental stage.

A total of 11 awards were handed out on Tuesday (AEDT), with Erik Lamela claiming the Puskas Award for his goal against Arsenal.
