The nominations for this year’s Emmy Awards were announced this morning in Los Angeles and there’s a healthy representation of out actors, queer-themed shows and actors in LGBT+ roles.
Evan Rachel Wood is up for best lead actress in a drama series for Westworld, and Samira Wiley for best supporting actress in a drama for her role in The Handmaid’s Tale. Lily Tomlin has been nominated for best lead actress in a comedy series for Grace and Frankie, Kate McKinnon is up for best supporting actress in a comedy series for Saturday Night Live and Ellen Page has been recognised for Gaycation, which is in the running for best unstructured reality series.

Other nominees include Titus Burgess for The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Shannon Purser for Stranger Things, as well as Laverne Cox for Orange is the New Black and Wanda Sykes for black-ish.
Ru Paul’s Drag Race has scored an impressive eight nominations—including Outstanding Reality Competition Program, Outstanding Casting for Reality Program as well as a nod for Untucked.
Transparent actors Jeffrey Tambor, Kathryn Hahn and Judith Light have all been nominated for their roles in the comedy and Uzo Aduba is up for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
That’s not to mention all the shows with queer characters that are up for Emmys this year—How to Get Away With Murder, Master of None, Portlandia, Big Little Lies, Modern Family, Veep, Brown Girls and House of Cards are all up for awards.
The 69th Emmy Awards will take place in September this year, hosted by Stephen Colbert.
