Actor and women's rights activist Emma Watson has taken to social media to share her support for members of the transgender community.

Watson shared a photo of herself on Instagram yesterday, pulling a power pose in a t-shirt that reads 'trans rights are human rights'.
Watson tagged a number of organisations in the post, including Stonewall, trans children’s charity Mermaids, All About Trans and Gendered Intelligence.

Fans were quick to celebrate the star's showing of support.

"As a trans guy myself, I want to say thank you for showing support in a time where there is much hate speech in the media and from extreme groups," one wrote on Twitter.

"Thank you Emma Watson for being an ally to the transgender community," added the Human Rights Campaign.

Back in 2014 Watson served as a UN Women Goodwill ambassador, launching the UN Women's HeForShe campaign.
