Entries for the SBS Emerging Writers' Competition 2022 now open

SBS is looking to unearth a new crop of talented Australian writers, with the now open. 

Submit your entry, along with your contact details, .

Entries close at 5pm AEST on September 21, 2022.

An initiative from SBS Voices, the competition aims to uncover bold new voices that reflect the diversity of contemporary Australia by inviting aspiring writers to share their stories and have their voices heard. Kickstart your writing career and win up to $5000.

We want to read your non-fiction memoir pieces written to this year's competition theme, ‘Emergence’. Entrants are invited to interpret this theme as they choose, whether it’s a story of emerging fully into their true selves, or an event arising in the narrative of their life. 

If you are currently living in Australia, are aged 18 or over and , it's time to get writing.

The winning submission will be awarded a $5000 prize to further their storytelling future, as well as having their story published on . There will also be a $3000 prize awarded for second place, and two honourable mentions will each receive $1000. 

The winning entry and three runners up entries will also be included in an SBS Emerging Writers’ Competition anthology to be published by Hardie Grant in 2023.

Winners will be notified on November 16 and be announced on November 22, 2022. 

Deadline for submissions is 5pm September 21, 2022.
