Fans of Adventure Time are mourning the end of the popular Cartoon Network series after 10 seasons.

Twitter was flooded with emotional farewell messages from longtime viewers after Jake the Dog and Finn the Human wrapped up their surreal adventures in the post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo.

However, for some the show's four-part season finale had one clear highlight - a long-awaited kiss between Marceline the Vampire Queen and Princess Bubblegum.
Former rivals, the characters' relationship has been developing for years, with fans labeling the pair 'Bubbline' and serenading them with fan art.

Well, it turns out the show's writers were listening, using the finale as an opportunity to confirm Bubbline's romantic story-line and sending viewers into a frenzy.
Despite being aimed primarily at children, Adventure Time developed a following among teenagers and adults after first airing in 2010.

The kiss is being hailed as a victory for queer representation in animated shows.
