‘Gay Olympics’ to pay tribute to Lady Gaga’s mother

Cynthia Germanotta will be honoured at the OutGames opening ceremony in Miami later this month.

The fourth takes place in Miami at the end of the month and will welcome LGBT+ athletes from over 40 countries for 10 days of sport, culture and human rights events.

The opening ceremony will honour Lady Gaga’s mother Cynthia Germanotta with the Champion Award, presented by the University of Miami Health System.

Germanotta promotes LGBT+ inclusiveness in her role as president and co-founder of the foundation.
“I am honoured to accept this award as a symbol of the progress we are making towards our goal of building a kinder and braver world,” Germanotta .

“We share the World OutGames Miami’s spirit of inclusiveness and the belief that communities will be strongest when we embrace each other’s differences and celebrate what makes each of us unique.”

The CEO of World OutGames Miami Ivan Cano said: “World OutGames is honoured to present Cynthia with the Champion Award for her amazing work done through Born This Way Foundation.
“This award recognition signifies our overall mission to foster unity and inclusiveness and it sends a strong message as the kick-off to this historic sports, culture and human rights event.”

Events at OutGames include over 21 sporting competitions as well as an arts and culture program and conference on human rights.
